Question – I have undergone many time management sessions. However, nothing seems to work, I never seem to have control over my time. How can I manage my time better?
Answer – To understand how to manage time, let’s first explore the concept of “time management” and also understand the meaning of “time”.
Most of us are always hard-pressed for time. In spite of having productivity apps, time management tools, some aspects of our life automated, yet we never feel caught up. Our dream goal, or that one vacation I wish I could take, or when will I be able to give time to my health and many such desires remain unfulfilled due to lack of “TIME”.
So, what exactly is Time and what is Time Management?
In my opinion, time management is a myth and a misnomer. Time is running and passing continuously (whether we like it or not, and whether we want it or not), there is absolutely no way to control time or to add/ delete hours from our day.
The hack is in managing ourselves during the time that we have. The world is thus moving away from the concept of time management to Self-Management or Life-Management.
Time is thus an emotion, and how you feel at the end of the day (whether you feel you are in control or overwhelmed) basically decides if you were able to manage your time well or not.
Another measure to verify if you have been managing time well is looking at your energy levels. If at the end of the day you are exhausted, tired, irritated and drained, then there’s work to be done in this area!
We have all experienced days when at the end of the day, we feel very productive and satisfied and there are days when in spite of working an equal no of hours, we remain dissatisfied and unproductive.
So, my question to you is – What differentiates these two days that lead to different energy levels and different feelings at the end of the day?
